LWVCC NonPartisan Policy

LWVCC NONPARTISAN POLICY
Adopted May 17, 2013

The League of Women Voters of Chaffee County may take action on governmental measures and policies, but it shall not support or oppose any political party or any candidate.

The LWVCC recognizes that the League experience uniquely equips members for public life and wishes to encourage members to utilize their knowledge and abilities and to participate fully in political activities on an INDIVIDUAL basis to preserve the League’s nonpartisan status.

Members may serve on any public board, commission, committee, or coalition; however, that member does not represent the League unless officially designated as a League representative by the League Leadership Team.

Any Leadership Team members, especially visible to the public (Voter Service, Publicity, or Spokesperson) taking any action that will cause them to be identified as supporting any candidate for office or any political party shall step-off the Leadership Team during the election process.

Leadership Team members shall not run for or hold elective political office.  If a Leadership Team member declares for an elective political office, the member should resign from the Leadership Team.

League activities, including meetings and events, must preserve the LWVCC non-partisan status; therefore, any non-league materials should not be passed out at League meetings or events, but may be placed on a non-league community information table if provided.

LWVCC member contact information including email and/or home addresses or phone numbers shall not be used for non-league business.

Campaigning and campaign materials for elected office shall be reserved for candidate’s forums.

The political activities of a spouse or relative of a member are to be considered as separate and distinct from the activities of the member.
